Polytechnic Students To Take Compulsory Skills As Graduation Requirement
The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has mandated that all polytechnic students in Nigeria must obtain a Mandatory Skills Qualification (MSQ) as a graduation requirement. This new directive, outlined in the revised National Diploma and Higher National Diploma curricula, aligns with global trends emphasizing the importance of skill acquisition among youth in polytechnics. Hajiya Fatimah Abubakar, the NBTE spokesperson, highlighted that diploma holders will now graduate with a National Skills Qualification (NSQ) or an equivalent certification in addition to their academic qualifications.
The introduction of the Mandatory Skills Qualification reflects the NBTE’s commitment to enhancing the practical skills and competencies of students in various fields. Abubakar emphasized that the NSQ certification system aims to assess and acknowledge individuals’ abilities in their respective areas of expertise. This initiative underscores the significance of equipping polytechnic graduates with practical skills that are essential for their professional development and success in the evolving job market.
